Wonderful Wednesday #7

Did you enjoy the bank holiday?
I enjoyed the extra day off as I was able to spend an extra day with my friends.
The last week has been busy but fun...

Sunshine riding
My friend came over to ride with me at the weekend and we went for a lovely ride on my horses and they both behaved which was a bonus!

Chickens indoors
The chooks have taken to hanging around outside the back door and as soon as it's open, they come in the house looking for food. If you feed them, they will settle down on the doormat for a snooze but I ignored them the other day and then found one in my bedroom!

Barley walks
The barley fields are nice and long now and one of our walks goes through some. I like to wait until the dogs are ahead slightly then I run up the tracks, crouch down and hide from them. When I whistle, they have to try and find me. It's absolutely hilarious!

Squirrels
We're currently overrun with squirrels and they are trashing the chicken run and house, eating all the food and even had an egg the other day.
I have got a trap and our tally is 7 at the moment in the space of about 10 days.

Pony cuddles
Fern is the most unaffectionate horse ever and will only tolerate fuss on her own terms. I checked on them yesterday and she came strolling over for some fuss and we had some lovely scratches and cuddles for about 20 minutes before she'd had enough and walked off again. I have to make the most of these rare moments!!

Have a cracking week and let's hope the sunshine hangs around just a little bit longer.

Beautiful Bluebells

This month, I have been out with my big girl camera taking photos of the gorgeous bluebells that we have in abundance!

The bluebells in South Devon were out at the end of April and are virtually gone now but the ones further up on the moors are in full bloom now - presumably because it is somewhat cooler up there.

Enjoy these photos....

Wonderful Wednesday #6

When it comes to writing these posts, I just check my photos on my phone to remind me what I've been up to.
This week, there's not much but I feel like it's been a really busy week!

Badminton Horse Trials
On Saturday, I spent the day at Badminton with one of my best friends and her sister. We spent a few hours shopping and got some goodies, we met LOADS of dogs and had to say hello to most of them - especially the Whippets, Cairns and Daschies!
We then walked the course which is just over 4 miles long. The fences are enormous and some are quite complex. It was great to see the amazing skill of the top riders.
Thankfully the weather was kind to us as it looks like it was going to be awful right up until the night before but we had a lovely dry day that was the perfect temperature!

Ducklings
When one of our hens went broody, our neighbours gave us some duck eggs to put under her as an experiment. 3 have hatched and they are unbelievably cute! I hope they aren't too confused by having a little chicken for their mum but I'm sure they'll be fine.

Not much other fun stuff has happened this week - poor Monty dog got attacked by another dog on Saturday and ended up in the vets with a big abscess and the police involved.
I'm now home alone for the next 10 days looking after a million creatures so please feel free to call round with pizza and cider!!

Wonderful Wednesday #5

I might have to make this a wonderful Thursday post! Another one a bit late!

I had such a busy week last week and was out every night catching up with various friends and family.

So this week's awesomeness...

Friends
I caught up with loads of people last week which was fab. Brunch with a friend at the weekend, Indian with my best friend's parents (she's abroad with work at the moment), pizza and pub quiz with another bestie and a baby shower with a crowd of lovely ladies for my friend E's imminent twins!

Baby Shower
It wasn't as cheesy or American as a baby shower - it was a pre- babies gathering for my friend E who is having twins soon and wanted an afternoon with a load of her friends.
A local country house had a garden open afternoon so we went along with picnic blankets and prosecco and sat in the sun putting the world to rights. They are such a good bunch of girls and as S is abroad with work, we managed to Skype her from the sunny garden so she could say hello to everyone! It was great to be able to include her!

Running
I am not a runner but I need to get out more as I have entered the ballot for the London Marathon next year.... WHAT!! I have no idea what came over me but a few of us from our training group have entered and they talked me into it.
I can barely run a bath, let alone a flippin' marathon!
Now I have got THE FEAR, I have also entered Plymouth's 10k in October which does seem more achievable.
I need to get my injury ridden legs to work a bit better. I went for a little 2.5 mile run round beautiful Saltram at the weekend but was hobbling by the end. Very frustrating but something to work on!

Bluebells
I found a walk really near home that drops down into a small woodland area which is just a sea of bluebells. It was spectacular! Unfortunately the weather was rubbish so I only had my phone camera but I hope to go back before they go over and will take my DSLR.
In a couple of weeks, the bluebells at Holwell lawn should be out so I will be planning a trip with the gorgeous Michelle and the hounds.

Adrenalin Ninjas
Our training camp had a celebration on Tuesday with an evening out at Adranalin in Plymouth. It is run by Corbin Mackin who has competed successfully at the Ninja Warrior UK games.
I didn't think I could manage the Ninja Warrior course so spent my time air guitaring on the trampolines, battling friends on the balance beam and jumping off the platforms onto a giant air bag.
It was amazing and we all forgot how old we were and had an amazing time - highly recommended!!

Wonderful Wednesday #4

Ooops - a day late!
Wedding season is just kicking off and work is getting busy but I'm going to stick at it!
This week's wonderful bits were:

Exploring
Parke National Trust at Bovey Tracey. I took the dogs up here at the weekend and although it was busy, we enjoyed a nice walk and the dogs had a lovely time tearing about and playing in the river. I will definitely go back to explore different routes and sample the cafe!

Working out
I go to Devon Fit Camp at least 3 times a week which is so much fun and I love it.
Last week was my birthday so I got to pick the workout and the playlist. I chose some classic 90s cheesy tunes like Barbie Girl, S Club 7, Spice Girls etc. The workout was quite a tough one but really fun and I think everyone enjoyed it!

Friends
I spoke to my best friend on Skype as she is currently deployed with her work. She said she's hoping to be home sooner than expected which is amazing!
Another friend I haven't seen for a while got in touch to ask about coming to ride the horses so of course I said yes - I've missed having company when I ride and she gets on so well with my horses, I know I can trust her and they love her too.

Comedy Show
On Tuesday I went to watch Ricky Gervais perform in Plymouth. I last saw him live about 10 years ago when we were still at Uni. I've never got into any of his TV shows like The Office but his standup is very funny.
I could only get a single ticket so went on my own and sat on the front row right in the centre - thankfully he's not one to pick on the audience!!
His humour is not for everyone but I thought he was hilarious and really enjoyed myself.

Wonderful Wednesday #3

NHow was your Easter? I hope you ate loads of chocolate!

This week has been a busy and very eggciting (sorry) one!!

New Car
I saw a car on eBay last week which looked like it could be good so made a few enquiries, went down to the wrong end of Cornwall on Friday, drove it, loved it, bought it, winced at it being the most expensive thing I've ever bought and then caught the train down on Monday to pick it up!
I then spent a couple of hours sitting in holiday traffic (silly me for going down on Bank Holiday!) but enjoyed the drive home in my new car.

Exploring
This week we explored Lanhydrock National Trust property. On our way back from viewing the car in Cornwall, we stopped at Lanhydrock to walk the dogs and have an early lunch. Needless to say it was packed and there were millions of kids but we had an enjoyable walk in the grounds away from the masses and it made a nice break to the day. I would definitely go back to explore further as we barely scratched the surface.

Food Market
Totnes is one of my favourite towns nearby. It's very alternative and very peaceful. The shops are great and the food is brilliant. At the weekend they had a food market so we popped over to sample some goodies and came away with some amazing slices of pie and a gorgeous sourdough loaf of bread. We were very restrained around the enormous selection of cakes though!!

More Exploring
While we were in Totnes, we explored some of the little side streets and then stopped for a cold beverage on the riverside before setting off for a walk towards Sharpham. The dogs had a lovely time and Tiggs met another whippet and had some crazy zoomies until they were both exhausted!

Bluebells and Whitebells
Whilst out riding over the weekend, I saw some white Bluebells in amongst some normal Bluebells. I've never seen white ones before, only the pinky ones. I got a picture but as it was from horseback, it's not the best.
Have you ever seen white Bluebells before?!

Wonderful Wednesday #2

Happy Wednesday to you! I hope your week is going well and you are excited for a long Bank Holiday weekend!
This week's best bits... I think you'll already know what the number one best bit was.....

The weather
Oh my days!! I LOVE spring sunshine!! It makes my heart so happy - this is my absolute favourite time of year. Warm but not too hot, no flies (can you tell I'm a horse owner?!), the mud is drying and the grass is growing! I even sat out in the garden for a bit and got a little bit burnt!

A new walk
I explored a new walk at the weekend which is not far from home and it was beautiful! I didn't see a soul which is my idea of a perfect walk. The furry dog had a swim and a game even though the river was absolutely Baltic! The bony dog had a paddle but she's not a swimmer. If the weather is really good this summer, I might go further into the river and see if she'll follow me in for a swim.

Beach walkies
At the weekend, one of my besties was around so we arranged to go for a walk at Bigbury. I haven't seen her properly for ages and our 5 dogs all get on really well so a walk was long overdue!
Bigbury was quite busy but not too bad and the doggies had the best time thundering about like maniacs. Thankfully we managed to avoid any families ending up with a wet sandy dog (or five) in their sandwiches but it wasn't easy!
We went to the pub afterwards and sat in the garden for lunch in the gorgeous sunshine - perfect!

Evening rides
Now the clocks have changed, I am going to make a conscious effort to ride after work regularly. I had my first 'after work' ride this week and it was great! As the evenings get even longer, I will be able to go further afield rather than just round the block.
I am even going to cut back on our dog agility training so I can commit to the horses more.

First BBQ
Yes, we had our first BBQ of the year on Sunday evening. We should have done it Saturday when the weather was really good as Sunday was a bit chilly. I incinerated everything on the BBQ and we retreated indoors to eat in the warm!

Have an awesome week and I hope the weather stays warm and dry for just a little bit longer!!

Wonderful Wednesday #1

Well I thought I would jump on the #wonderfulwednesday train!

Recently, I went for a lovely dog walk with my friend Michelle from Life Out Of London who has been part of Wonderful Wednesday for ages. I was saying how I have lost my way with my blog and don't feel as if anyone would be interested in reading it and how I have lots of drafts but then they go out of date and so don't get published!

I had toyed with the idea of doing a weekly post so there's not so much to talk about in one go and it gives me a little structure and timescale to work with.
She pointed out that it is something I can look back on in the future which is very true!

I have in the past done a "Mundane Midweek" but feel Wonderful Wednesday is much more up beat and I can tell you about all the nice things in my life.

Sooooo....

This week looks a little like this...

New life on the farm
We have had a single chick born recently and it is soooo cute! We have a motley variety of chooks and this one is a Bantam so a small chicken. More specifically, the mother is a Silkie and the father is a Pekin so I wonder what the chick will look like when it grows up.

We also had a new lamb born a few days after the chick. She is a cracking little lamb who needed my assistance to enter the world but is fit, healthy and strong and enjoys sunbathing, running around and leaping in the air.

Progress
We had to move house about 18 months ago and our new house was in a very poor state with the grounds having been left to get wild over several years.
I found some photos of when we first moved there and it really helped to boost our morale when we saw how far we have come in a relatively short space of time.
The house still leaves an awful lot to be desired but we are waiting for planning approval to hopefully transform it!

Spring walks
I have just had a week off work and have explored some new walks with the dogs which we have really enjoyed.
Yesterday we went on one of our usual walks and the sun was shining, we were the only ones there and it was so lovely and peaceful - bliss!

Photography
I have dusted off my DSLR and hope to take it out a bit more to document my surroundings. The next thing will be to do something with the photos like publish them on here or social media for others to enjoy as well!
This is an awesome picture I got of Tiggs last week down on the beach:

Pupdate 4

Wowee, I have neglected this little corner of the t'internet!
Sorreeeee!

Little Tiggs is now just over a year old. Her birthday was on New Year's Day. She got a onesie for her birthday which she loves! She looks like such a plonker in it but it keeps her warm and happy.

Needless to say they both got spoilt rotten at Christmas and had more presents and treats than us humans! They got a Brussels sprout toy which was really popular and both got new fleeces.

We seem to have finally cracked the house training at long bleddy last!!
Tiggs currently sleeps in my bed with me as it is chilly at night so she sometimes asks to be let out at around 3 or 5 am but I am going to start trying to break this habit so she sleeps through.
When the weather warms up, I hope to get them back to sleeping in the kitchen!

3 mornings a week I get up at 5am to go training so if she gets up, I'll let her out but sometimes she just snuggles down deeper and keeps her eyes closed while I set off in the rain/wind/freezing cold to train outside! I get back in just after 7am and go and wake her up.

Her and Monty get on very well and play well together - he still can't catch her but she does like to entice him into a game of chase. She also likes to entice Jim the ram into playing as well which is funny to watch.
Their current favourite toys are these strange little eggs that have a chick pop out when they are squeezed and squeaked.

I have recently created a local Whippet Walk group on Facebook so we can meet up with other local whippets and enjoy walks and zoomies together. We had our first group walk at Bigbury beach at the weekend and the 6 or so whippets had an amazing time tearing around like lunatics! They can go so fast and they really love other whippets (they probably know they can have a decent competitor in a game of chase!).
The group has proved popular and we all agreed to try and make it a more regular event.

She is getting marginally better at agility but it is slow progress! We won't be at Crufts anytime soon!
